Vocational
Centre :
Started in1928, for those
destitute women, deserted wives, helpless widows who had no education and were
too old to start schooling, vocational guidance was imparted in the Vocational
Center. In the early stages, vocational guidance was imparted in handicrafts
like lace work, enamel work, weaving, rattan work, music ( vocal and
instrumental), soft toy making, embroidery and dressmaking.
With the passage of time, there
have been changes at the Vocational Centre. For many years the centre
concentrated only on soft toy making and embroidery which was marketed at the
Victoria Technical Institute, then came years of plaited leather shoe upper and
panels for bags for export. Courses on Home Nursing and Geriatric care have
been held. Presently free courses are imparted in computer literacy under the
name Pravarthanalaya.
